Big Tone, born and raised in Detroit, Michigan to Andy and Tina Brown, is the youngest of three and the only boy in the family. Big Tone is a product of the Detroit Public School System, where he participated in extracurricular activities like Teen Profile; a local radio and television program featuring teen reporters. Broadcast media has always been at the center of his heart and passions.
After attending Michigan State University, he graduated from Northwood University while working full time for the Big Three. The highlight of the day as a Hilo driver, was being able to listen to the radio on his breaks. He always knew and understood the power of radio and how it can take you to another reality, and vowed to make that his career, one way or another.
When a series of buyouts were offered, Big Tone left the Big Three after ten years and attended Specs Howard School of broadcasting. At the age of 36, he became an unpaid intern and was promoted to Special Events Manager for the largest two urban stations in Metro Detroit. From there, he became the Special Events Director for the company, but his heart longed to be on air, not behind the scenes.
Long before it became popular, Big Tone invested in himself and started his own podcast, which lasted nearly ten years. Big Tone landed his first full-time on-air position about two years ago in Saginaw, MI before landing his dream job as Afternoon Drive Personality for 92.7 WDZZ. Big Tone has a way of connecting with listeners on-air and his one-of-a-kind voice makes him a hit with listeners. The ladies love him, and the fellas can relate to him. Big Tone has never met a stranger; everyone is family to him!
Big Tone is also big on giving back to the community and loves to use his platform to help and motivate others. Big Tone’s favorite saying is, “It’s never too late to become what you’ve always dreamed of!”
